The winning poster

selimThe result of the competition to design the poster to promote the reaffirmation of the twinning, which will be taking place in Richmond next year, has just been announced.

The winner is Selim Bener (aged 11), who attends Orleans Park School in Twickenham. Selim lives near Richmond Bridge, which provided the inspiration for his painting.

The standard of entries was extremely high. A winner was chosen in each age category & Selim’s design was selected as the overall winner.

Selim’s stunning poster will be displayed in the three towns, on the various websites & on social media.

Clara de Sancha’s poster was the winner in the 12-16 age group.

Sarah Urbatschek was the winner in the 17-18 age group.

The winning posters will be exhibited in Orleans House Gallery next year & all 3 winners will be invited to tea with Nancy Baldwin, the Mayor of Richmond & REA President.

The Octagon Room, Orleans House.

Free guided tours of Orleans House take place each Tuesday & Sunday afternoon at 2.30 p.m. As the name suggests, Orleans House has strong French connections & this beautiful building and gallery will be  centre stage in the 2020 reaffirmation celebrations, which will be taking place in Richmond.

The house is open to the public every Tuesday to Sunday afternoon from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Admission is free.

The New Host a Teacher from Germany Scheme

Applications are now open for the new Host a Teacher from Germany Scheme. If your primary or secondary school would like a qualified teacher from Germany to join your staff for up to three weeks to introduce the children to the German language & culture or to support the teaching of German within the school, at no cost to the school, please click on the following link.

It sounds too good to be true, but it is true. The scheme is funded by the German government, as it provides opportunities for the professional development of teachers of English in Germany as well as  promoting the German language & culture abroad. As they say in Germany. “Es ist eine Win-Win-Situation.”

Two REA Members elected to the European Parliament

26th May 2019. Congratulations to REA members, Bill Newton-Dunn & Dinesh Dhamija, who were elected as members of the European Parliament. Both are passionate europhiles & have been members of our association for 2 years. 

Bill has invited REA members to visit the European Parliament in Brussels on 9th October, when the parliament will be in session.
